PanARMENIAN.Net – Armenia expects a clear reaction from its international partners to Azerbaijan’s violations of international law, the Defense Ministry has told military attachés of foreign embassies accredited in the country.
The attachés were hosted by Leon Ayvazyan, Head of the General Department of Defense Policy and International Cooperation of Ministry of Defense, on Wednesday, July 21.
Ayvazyan detailed on the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, drawing particular attention to Baku’s provocations near Yeraskh, Ararat province.
“It was noted that Azerbaijan’s aggressive rhetoric and the territorial claims against Armenia undermines the long-term efforts for peace in the region,” the Defense Ministry said in a statement.
“The Armenian side, remaining committed to the peaceful resolution of the situation, nevertheless reserves the right to take all necessary measures to prevent and counteract such incidents.”
Azerbaijani forces violated Armenia’s border in several sections in the provinces of Syunik and Gegharkunik on May 12 and 13 and are still refusing to withdraw their troops from the area. Two Armenian servicemen were killed in Azerbaijan’s shooting, while six troops were captured on May 27, although four of them have already returned home.
