Pashinyan: Situation on Armenia-Azerbaijan border not stabilizing

July 29, 2021 – 12:35 AMT

PanARMENIAN.Net – Caretaker Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said on Thursday, July 29 that the situation on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan is not stabilizing, despite the efforts of his government and the international community.

The statement from the UN came after the Azerbaijani armed forces attacked the Armenian positions in Gegharkunik province, triggering local battles. Three Armenian troops were killed, five others were wounded in the process, the Defense Ministry said, adding that the Azerbaijani forces have been thwarted back to their positions. The Azerbaijanis fired on Armenian positions on July 29 too, injuring one more soldier.

Pashinyan noted that Baku carries on with its aggressive behavior both in terms of the rhetoric and actions, leaving unanswered all the proposals of the international community for a settlement.

The acting PM reminded the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs’ call for the resumption of the political dialogue between the two countries, maintaining that Azerbaijan has yet to respond to the proposal, while Armenia has expressed readiness to begin negotiations as soon as possible.

He stressed that Azerbaijan is trying to disrupt all options for dialogue, including the implementation of the trilateral statements of November 10 and January 11.
