Armenia "on standby" to help Greece fight wildfires if need be

PanARMENIAN.NetArmenia has offered assistance to Greece amid wildfires raging in the country but there is no need for additional help for now, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Vahan Hunanyan told Armenpress on Friday, August 13.

“We are deeply concerned over the situation caused by the wildfires in friendly Greece and we express solidarity with the brotherly Greek people in these difficult times,” Hunanyan said.

“We have contacted our Greek partners and offered help. Greece expressed gratitude to Armenia, and at the same time informed that given the fact that the wildfire situation declined from the crisis phase to a comparably mild one, there is no need for additional help for now.”

Hunanyan said Armenia will continue to closely follow the situation and will immediately offer a helping hand to the Greek people, if need be.

Wildfires that have ravaged Greece for over two weeks have been brought under control, a fire brigade spokesman said on Friday. But the risk of fires remained very high on Friday in four regions, including Attica, the area around Athens, the Peloponnese and the island of Evia, the Civil Protection Authority warned.
