PanARMENIAN.Net – Former President of the National Assembly Ararat Mirzoyan has been appointed the Foreign Minister of Armenia, according to a decree signed by President Armen Sarkissian.

Mirzoyan was elected the speaker of parliament in January 2019. A founding member of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s Civil Contract Party, Mirzoyan also briefly served as the First Deputy Prime Minister in 2018.

Armen Grigoryan, meanwhile, who was recently appointed a Deputy Foreign Minister and served as acting Foreign Minister, was relieved of his post and reappointed as the Secretary of the country’s Security Council.

The post of the Foreign Minister has been vacant since late May, when Ara Aivazian resigned from the position, in the aftermath of the 44-day war in Nagorno-Karabakh.
